Long time since I've been on here. Hoping to get some kind souls to give friendly answers, not like last time. Anyway.
12a) A Squire and Prioress entertaining old writer, perhaps (5,4)
A_E_T/_O_N

I think A Gent, then the O, and I think the definition is a writer, but a writer's name, or an implement?

Many thanks, Jazzgirl. In a way, it is always pleasing when it is not an answer I think I knew. However, Prioress = NUN is something I should have got.
