Grid complete and names and theme found...

...but I'm struggling to find the 4 words that, once removed from clues "hint at the title of a subsequent book and film".

The book/film I thought was of 5 words but I cannot find most of them...

Can anyone give me a kindly nudge?

Thanks in advance,

M

I think you need four instances of the main/relevant word in the book and film.

Thank you Malone.

If the book was published in 1953, you are alluding to the fourth word in its title?

My word is the second one in a book and film. I haven't checked the publication date.

I finished it all except that I cannot parse 20a:

Like an outdated puzzle, firstly, take one + half of 30.

I've got TART? so I assume TARTY.

I didn't bother with the four extra words in the clues. I'm not keen on that device anyway, as there can be more such words which, it could be argued, are not essential to the clue.

Hi Orson, yes tarty; t(ake) + a + (thi)rty. If you look up puzzle² it refers to pucelle.

Orson, I wasn't too bothered about the four extra words - I just had a quick look as I'd got through this very quickly!

Yes, malone, this was one of the easier ones. There are a surprising number of people in Wikipedia with the name at 6d but I well remember seeing the film when it was on television some time ago.

I've never seen the film, but will look out for it, Orson.
