Looks like fun. HEX, as they are known here, rarely fail to delight though not all readers agree.
A comment from the previous puzzle 20180324:

"The title of this puzzle should have been Folie a Deux. Clearly, this was a bridge too far. Most of us do not have the time to decipher meta layers like this. Hours of frustration rather than satisfaction. This was like trying to play 50 holes of golf. Who has the time? Happy for those who figured it out but some of us have lives. Cox and Rathvon need to rediscover the balance they had at the Atlantic."

Apparently cryptics are still a novelty in the US. Actually I found the old Atlantic puzzles more challenging than the current WSJ ones.

Thanks yet again syzygy, no where near as difficult as reading of the preamble suggested but enjoyable nevertheless. Nice, if again, not overly taxing endgame.
I was surprised at the sentiment in the comment you highlighted and I agree with you regarding the "old" Atlantic puzzles. Cheers.

What an absurd comment. They're always a joy. That one may have been a bit tricky but it didn't take very long to finish and I had no question marks. And I have a very busy life!
As always, thanks so much for providing these. I'll try to get to this one later on today.
