It's probably not the right answer, but Chambers says that the word pantechnicon was originally a building in London intended for all kinds of artistic work, turned into a furniture store. Bit loose, I know - depends on the crossword.

It could be Kaleidoscope...this contains loose coloured beads etc

Bluestocking? -stocking as in storing? The possibilities are endless
