All birds . . All tough

1. Unusually they decided to foster a Newcastle pro (6,5)

I have . . Forest Miner, but don't think it is actually a bird name

2. As her old flickering lamp went out the river bird vanished into the night (8,10)

I have . . Imperial Nightheron, but ditto #1

3. Stop prattling man, just tell us what you saw at Sturt's Stoney Desert (10)

I presume that SSD is the bird's habitat . .

4. A bit of a gamble but at least you could somehow count on a beer here (6,6)

I have ?? Toucan . . cannot come up with type

Of course 'toucan' could be completely out of order

Thanks in advance

Hello, Hannah!
These are tough!
I looked up the birds in Sturt's Stony Desert and there are hundreds of species.
None rang a bell, though!

The bit of a gamble and get a beer here etc could refer to the

Gilded Barbet

which everybody knows is a close relative of the toucan!!
