Float, it means both part of a procession and also to suggest something.

To expand on Malone's answer, a float is one of the moving displays (nowadays on a flatbed lorry) in a carnival procession.

Probably malone, though carnivals of this sort are not all that common. There was always one in Barnstaple (where I was brought up) on the Saturday after the annual funfair, in mid-September.
