I've finished except for 2 down! A doubly entertaining situation in middle-class novels.(3-5) I have: A_A- _A_A_ Any hints please?

Think of an oven/cooker.

You're not alone! I also have only 2 down left to solve. Could it be ALA-HAHA. I believe there is or was such a person, but it doesn't match the clue. TEA-DANCE would make much more sense (doubly entertaining), but that wouldn't intersect with DAILY PAPER and PARTING SHOTS. iI like Tim Moorey's puzzles, but this time I think I'll have to concede defeat.

I think they used to be called kitchen sink dramas until they became middle class!

Thank you. I take it that it's the tennis player? I wouldn't have got it, as I'd never heard the name before.
