A nice puzzle. I have not come across this setter before

I agree. For once I managed to finish it on the day of publication. Likewise, the setter is new to me.

Picked it up a couple of hours ago. Half way there.

Have not solved all the clues.
Have guessed one combination of loser and item lost.
I can guess 6a but do not know what to pair with.

Hint on 15d and 27a to start with.

15 Hush surrounding habitual
response for line of verse (5)

27 Briefly express disapproval in
front of an Aussie tree-hugger (4)

15 The usual crossword word for 'hush' with a three-letter word for 'habitual response' inside.

27 . A three letter word for express disapproval, shortened (briefly) and add another word in the clue. The resulting word is the tree-hugger.

Found the losers. Had heard of all except one.

Nice puzzle. More like a Spectator.
No extra/missing letters, no figuring how method of grid entry.

I agree - you could hardly go wrong on this one. Although when I got "Little", I thought it might be Boy Blue who I thought lost his horn.

Eventually recalled that he blew it not lost it.

Interesting that the careless shepherdess also featued in a question on Only Connect on Monday.
