I don't know this crossword but "earn" doesn't sound like a great answer to me.. not that I'm saying it is wrong, Ixion. It could just as logically be Euro, couldn't it?

12a. A beaker is a glass vessel; also, Beaker is one of the Muppets (are they 'toys'?).

I think you are right Kemlo...Euro makes more sense since it is referred to as It..

Hadn't thought of Euro - was wondering if Chambers defined Earn as earnings/salary.

The Muppet is the only toy connection I could see but seems a bit tenuous
