7a: Deposit initially gets you the training-job afterwards. 6 letters. This does not make sense if I have g-t-j-. Any help appreciated.

"Gyttja" is sediment at the bottom of a lake.

I arrived at the word from the parsing of the clue...........and then had d to consult Google to find out what it meant!
That's why I copied and pasted the definition!

Anne Bradford's Dictionary has it under "deposit".
