and

48d > One first lady upset another old official (5) *?E?E

48d intersects with 47a where the asterisks are!

im glad about that, i couldnt think of a better way to show it!

as for the explanations, i can see how they work now i have the answers, so no problem! im just pleased to have finished it twice in a row!!

that didnt really answer your question, did it?! sorry! i was just glad to get the answers in this time, which is usually the case with me, if i prefer an explanation, as opposed to being told, i\'ll try and say so when i post the thread!

trevor - I got the answer "reeve" but cannot totally fit it to the clue. Can you please explain your reasoning. Thanks.

One first lady upset another old official.
re eve
One first lady upset=ER(the Queen backwards) + another 1st lady (adam +)Eve.
A Reeve was some kind of official - in fuedal times, I think.
