9a: When there's no jam to be opened up in reverse? = now

What has jam got to do with 'h'?

I think it might refer to an expression in Lewis Carroll's 'Alice Through The Looking Glass' - Jam Tomorrow (Meaning a never fulfilled promise).
Hence, if there's 'Jam tomorrow', there's no jam now.

Might be. And, on reflection, 'opened up' might be 'won' in a mining/quarrying/excavation context. Reversed='NOW'. Thanks.
Do two mights make a must?

Hi Max, I was wondering about 'Won/Win' as well, and, in addition to the mining/quarry example you give, I also saw it defined as 'to pull ahead' as in a race, so I think if, for example, a horse 'pulled ahead' it could be said that it 'opened up' - I think!
