There may be a misprint in the definition:

Support church retaining old spire (6).... assume CE or CH for church but can't fit a spire inside?

Military leader receives Command Paper for democratic Anglo-Indian government (6)

Support... Broach (I got it from Bradford's - I think it's Bra, support , O old and Ch, church).

I think it is sircar. C for command to replace D for democratic in sirdar...but it could be the other way round. Still really struggling, have 15 clues left and can't make a start on putting the words I have in the grid.

The word Paper in the clue confused me. What is the significance?

I have about 25 answers but no idea on how to enter them.
There are only two 7 letter answers in the listed clues but about 8 slots in the grid.

7A and D seem most promising.

But I need an answer to this clue to decide which letter to start 7A with.

i think the judge one may be S N EE (obsolete word for cut)
