The only thing with (1) is that it is a (5,5)

I also thought that (2) was something THYME but it could be NEVIS as in Ben Nevis.

Please have another little think it is appreciated. I hate not finishing crosswords etc.

I do wonder if the 5,5 is a misprint as my answer seems to fit the clue perfectly.
After all this time no-one has come up with anything better!
