This my first EV Crossword and I think I may have bitten off more than I can chew ! Can someone tell me if the "too short" clues' answers go into consecutive spaces in the grid, starting at the beginning? Or do they leap frog spaces ? Also, am I right in thinking some solutions consist of two or even three words?

You chose a toughish EV to start with, Samovar! My 'too short' answers leapt over spaces at times. I think I had only one two-word answer. There's an existing longer thread on this puzzle, you might want to look at that later ('later' as you might come across a spoiler!).
