A really satisfying puzzle this week (can't believe I've finished and am the first to post anything about this one as I usually join the threads late!)

Can't parse answer to 23d (not that it really matters I guess): 'Summon DS sexily, one arresting townsman' - the 'DS sexily' is removed and the answer is ACCITE. Any help gratefully received.

It’s

Ace (one)

Surrounding cit (townsman in Chambers)

Nice puzzle though you could guess what the highlighting might be before you started.

Thanks djawhufc. I agree about the shading. Nice touch with adding the one clue number to the grid though...

Totally agree with the comments. I thought it was a nice touch to give pride of place at 1 across to that particular person.

I've finished everything except for adding one clue number to the grid. 1300, 25, something to indicate Samuel? Thanks in anticipation!

Yes agree with all your comments - some nice touches. I remember the first one - which was the first of its type I had seen.

I can see 17 of the setters but cant get "DS sexily" and is the other one Gate Post? and the answer a drum?

DS Sexily is Syd Lexis, I think.

Orson, it is 25 and indicates a silver jubilee in conjunction with the answer to that clue.

Thanks, alwaysp. I did think of 25 but as I'd put all the clue numbers in already I thought an extra number was required somewhere. I wonder whether putting in all the other numbers will disqualify it.

I think it will Orson as otherwise the marker will not be able to see that you've understood the significance of 25 years.
