Seems a bit of an odd answer to the clue though so I hope that someone comes up with something better.

If a dye is fast it does not run or fade, so maybe

Fastness

does mean a letter wrong tho`

Fastness can also mean a stronghold, like a castle, where there is a Keep....

Francis--Compliant in this sense means yielding (Giving up , surrendering etc)
