Hi. A tricky wee devil today but I got them all. Just don't understand some.

Artist's stand in back street - they provide a good nap = TE-S-LS so gotta be Teasels, right? But that's a plant...

Scoff at consumer goods = eat. Scoff/eat, that's fine. Consumer goods??

Claim to be prim, not flashy = I-M-D--T. So that'll be Immodest. Which IS flashy and NOT prim...

Concerned about one's figures = statistical. Eh?

NB missprints are not uncommon in this paper.

Many thanks.

1. teasels are (were?) tradionally used for raising the nap on cloth.
3. read it like this... claim I'm modest not immodest.

Haberdashery, they were mainly bought to raise and even out knitted garments such as those knitted with a fluffy angora type wool. It was one many of the weird and wonderful items we stocked, including trouser zips, where I ( a blushing young lady) then had to ask "How long"? LOL quite a few would ask me round the counter with my tape measure tee hee.

The best fun was when we started to stick invisible thread and people looked at you as if you had gone mad when you asked what shade they required. It came in light and dark, happy days.
