"Fashionable name current in Austria" = 'inn'. 'in' is 'in fashion' but how do we get 'inn'?
"Girl in film consumed a yoghurt dish" = 'raita'. Raita is an Indian yoghurt based dish but I can't see how this clue works. Many thanks.

Fashionable = IN + N = name. INN is a river in Austria. In cryptic crosswords current = river.

pooksahib,
I hope someone can explain this better than me.
If I am correct, then I think the clue is poorly worded.

Trevor is right, the word play is very poor. We are supposed to accept that in surgical operation lop can be seen as an obstruction, blockage, in the way or whatever.
All crosswords have duds like this sometimes. Personally, I just forget them and move on.

Surgical operation obstructed by prune.

I agree with some of the above, but if you take an (old) meaning of 'obstructed' - 'interrupted' (broken up/into) - then the clue does seem reasonable to me. 'Surgical operation' is broken up by 'lop' - and 'lop' means 'prune' (as in trimming a shrub).

I could see all that Jim.
It still seemed a little poor to me.
"Surgical operation "is" obstructed by prune", maybe.
or,with a question mark ie,
"Surgical operation obstructed by prune?".
or even just leave out the word "by"
best wishes from Mr.Pedantic.
