Glide, elegant move. Gide is the French writer, with L for fifty (Roman numerals) inside.

For once I knew the answer to this one, after I'd googled French writers and came across Andre Gide, added the L for 50 and came up with Glide. Was still going to ask on here though but no need, thanks both:)

Hi, yidrig, glad you had no problems with this one. I'm not very knowledgeable about French writers, but I think Gide has popped up in crosswords before.

Hi Malone, I don't know much about French writers either, but knew 50=L, google can be so helpful at times, I would never have found this forum if it weren't for google. Today google is a star LOL:)..and you of course
