Thanks all. Can't say I enjoyed it. When you have to know the name of a mid-sized mountain in Scotland to solve a puzzle it's probably time for me to look for a different setter.

The Times Crossword has approximately a dozen different setters, not just one.

But, strangelybrown......you DON'T "have to know the name of a mid-sized mountain in Scotland to solve the puzzle"!
You work out the answer from the parsing of the clue. and with the additional help of your crossers!
This is a cryptic crossword, not a quiz!

Corbett isn't a specific "mid sized mountain", but any mountain between 2500 and 3000 feet; mountains of more than 3000 feet are (the more well-known) "Munros".

Just as well it wasn't a clue for the lesser known marilyn.
