24d Get mast from this, in more than one way (5) b?e?h. Must be beech, but why?

"beech mast" are the nuts of the beech tree, and mast could also be made of beech ?

I think beech is correct.

Mast = the fruit nut of the beech

Mast = the sap of a tree

And as beech is a known hardwood. I assume that ships masts may well have been constructed from beech.

The fruit of the beech tree is mast and you can make ships' masts from the wood
