Can you change the top word into the bottom word in the fewest number of steps possible? Change only one letter at a time and do not change the order of the letters. Proper names, slang, and obsolete words are not allowed.

Actually, Chris , Chambers gives "center" as either the American spelling of "centre" or "a cinctum, waistbelt"
So I guess it's authentic?

im in the u.S. "Center" refers to the middle of a point. Merriam's isusually the best reference
