I can only assume that the rest of you have had no trouble with this crossword as there are no messages on the Forum.

I have done the bottom half, but am stuck on many on the top half. Can I have some hints for 5d and 8ac. Are all the authors female?

5d an anagram of one word plus the first letter of another.

8a Shakespearean king involved and the usual 2 letter word for a party.

Thanks Mamya

As usual I managed to solve 5 down soon after I posted my question. Then stopped to watch a film on TV.

But your hint for 8ac proved helpful. I also struggled to find the last author - not as literary as the others.

I've finished it but not sure of my answers to 4d and 15ac. I think they are right - I just can't parse them.

Thank you! I also couldn't parse 15

I am stuck on 21A, although I have all the crossers, I can't make any sense of those few words that would fit. Could you tell me what the difinition is?

The first three letters are a synonym for "end" followed by something you might take in Spain minus its last letter ("short").
