The first is remit - timer

The last one looks like a dodgy anagram of IF SONGSTER CHOSE with an E left over!

I assume signing with the cross is a gesture.

It's a gesture of tracing the form of a cross as an invocation of God's grace (Chambers) - I'm more worried about the anagram which doesn't work.
