I did so badly on this one!

Two more I can't understand:

"Breaks the back of bridges [5]"

Solution: SNAPS

and

"Safe as a saint [5]"

Solution: PETER

spans backwards
Peter is the name of a safebreaker.

Peter means a safe as well as being the name of a saint.

Snaps = breaks. If you reverse it ('the back'), you get Spans, bridges.
