A triangle whose three sides "AND" IT'S HEIGHT are consecutive whole numbers.

But nothing to say that one of the sides cant be the height, so I am afraid my answer is correct, as I dont believe it is possible to draw a triangle with all 3 sides AND A SEPARATE HEIGHT in whole numbers, let alone consecutive

three sides "AND" IT'S HEIGHT are CONSECUTIVE whole numbers.
84 square inches (sides are 13,14,15; height is 12)
you seem to consider only Right angled triangles.

btw John surely you could have the sides ratio 1.2.3.

Ah yes mea culpa, I didn't connect the bit about the height. So the answer is 84.

Sides of 1, 2 and 3 cannot make a triangle, just a straight line!

I am sure that if you have 3 pieces of string/cotton,lengths 1, 2 ,3 (inches,miles,whatever) you can arrange these into a triangle - and a straight line too.

If you can call zero a whole number then John's triangle has a height of 0 and sides of 1,2 and 3, with an area of 0!

Where in the question does it say the height cant be one of the sides. Any answer other than the one PHILIP gave is impossible.
I am afraid this question is an old chestnut which is intended to test logic as well as mathematics. Too many of you appear to have been hanging onto the mathematics, rather than, as was put earlier, (and I am sure we all remember being told), reading the question.
Well done PHILIP. The rest of you, detention I am afraid.
