All done except top and bottom line quote. It is a lot of letters for a six word phrase. Can anyone confirm if the quote is three words at the top and three at the bottom please?

I think there are at least 4 words in the bottom row - the final 10 letters seem to give 3 words.

I have a major problem with the two 3-letter across solutions next to the unclueds. They don't seem to fit in the right place. Is something funny going on?

Yes there is something funny going on. The location of the three letter words is a consequence of it.....

I can make the bottom line contain just two words if I run the first from the last letter of the top line!

Still grid-staring

Unless I have made a real mess of this I seem to have blanks at the start and end of rows 5 and 9 respectively. Do I start again, or do I persevere? Also, the only clue I can't get is the "In single combat.......", a nudge would be appreciated!

The single combat answer definition is "bush".

No need to start again but look at what could fill those spaces.

STILL grid-staring.....

Nice "when you have eliminated the impossible" penny drop moment at the end there!

The ending seems a bit ambiguous - am I to take it that the two unclued entries are just to be left blank as indicated by the phrase? Seems a bit weak if that is the case!
