"Buffalo Bill has provided structure" = 'codify'. The only thing I'm not happy about is the IF. Where's that coming from? Many thanks.

Hi Pooksahib,
CODY is Buffalo Bill,IF=provided e.g "that will
fit IF the letters are right".
Hope this clarifies this clue.

It does, Jerry. And wooja believe it, my crossword today has another clue using Provide for If. It never occurred to me to use it in the context you mention. Cheers.

I've 3 today...
"Depressed and close to tears these days" = 'sad'. Must be fairly simple but I can't see it.
"Seriously - Oz truck's stuck in sort of clay" = 'acutely'. Is a ute some kind of truck??
"Split here in Balkans" = 'Croatia'. Is there a cryptic clue here or is this just General Knowledge?
Many thanks

"Depressed and close to tears these days" = 'sad'.
Close to tears means last letter of tears = S.
These days = AD (Anno Domini.

"Split here in Balkans" = 'Croatia'.
Split is a city in Croatia.

"Seriously - Oz truck's stuck in sort of clay" = 'acutely'. Is a ute some kind of truck??
Sorry. I can't explain this one. Anagram of CLAY and ETU. ETU stands for Electrical Trade Union in Australia is the only remote connection I can find.

Have you thought of changing your paper for one with better crossword clues?

Regards, Ken.

I've just found out that ute is an Australian car/truck hybrid - it is short for utility. You learn something new every day.
Ken.

Some fine work there, Ken. Thanks. Now then:
"Bats fly up in daze" = 'stun'. Nuts? Stab? Can't see anything...
"Fir tree exudes elemi when last bits appear" = 'resin'. I know what elemi is but what's the cryptic bit? Many thanks.

Fir tree exudes elemi when last bits appear.
Last letter of the words \"Fir tree exudes elemi when\"

Bats fly up in daze, I think is STUN (nuts backwards, bats, batty , mad)

Resin is spelt out in last letter (bit ) of 1st 5 words.

Stun or nuts probably depends on whether it is an across or down clue. Down will be stun.
