There have been occasional queries about those.

I've done Codeword puzzles for years, but wasn't familiar with Alphapuzzles. They seem to be the same but the latter have a cryptic clue.

How does the clue relate? Why is there no letter count?

The Daily Express alphapuzzle looks exactly the same as a codeword.
I couldn't see any clues, just a letter to start.
It would help if we knew where this puzzle comes from.

Some of the posts mention Daily Star as the publication

Thanks, Cerasus. That gave me a lead.
I tracked down two sequential puzzles from the Daily Express.

Note the clue in the first:
https://www.pressreader.com/uk/daily-express/20170403/282230895536752
Carer is left out of sunrise = SUNR(is)E = NURSE No anagrind that I can see. (of ?)

This appears as answer #4 in the solution:

Next clue:
Rudimentary cab is in a smash = [CAB IS]* = BASIC

Apparently the clue/answer is to help by providing some extra letters if one gets stuck.
No letter count so as not to make it too easy.

Thanks Syzygy.
I've had a quick glance but can't print it off at the moment.
I've never seen a clue for this kind of puzzle, just a couple of starting letters.
I guess the E = 23 and there are two places where NURSE would fit.
