Some tough ones, as usual, and would appreciate assistance with this one:- "Hungry characters, fed from jar".
It's 5 letters, and I have G-A-E, which might suggest GRATE,
this being the "JAR" bit, but I then fail to tie in the rest of the clue.

GR are characters/letters in Hungry, and Ate/fed?

Many thanks, Malone - I guess that's about it! I'm convinced
that before long, they'll come up with a clue where there'll
be TWO possible answers!!

It's definitely not a great (!) clue, but I've seen worse.
