Liking this week! But still need help please. 29a: who burst open what remains in deserted church. (6) I have ?EIS?E but there should be a redundant word in the clue providing one letter to be removed from the answer (unless this clue is different from other across clues)

I am not sure how you would parse this.

But to fit your letters DEHISCE would work. It means burst open. Church would be CE.

Who would be extra so H would go leaving DEISCE.

I like that answer. But parsing? In another clue I cannot parse, so on we go. Thank you.

D = deserted
EH = what?
IS = remains
CE = church

I agree with you jogamel. Orson aced it.

I have only solved a handful.
I am not sure yet how to enter the down answer.
I am assuming it could be anagrams or switching the two halves or cycling the word.
But Deisce screws up my down answers. I do not have I in 8D and I do not have a C in my 9D.

My answer to 23d is 9 letters long but the grid has only 8 cells.

Must find the extra letters, I guess.

Go with your second option....23d has only 8 letters. Have you misspelt?

I entered 29a in the wrong place. So OK with 8 and 9D.

I have twit for twerp. then anagram of tree and R.
Tit would give me 8 letters.

Or am I barking up the wrong one?

Orson, I am struggling now with 22d - I thought it might be an anagram. Any tips? Sun blending with this segment could make measurement complex (8)
