Welcome to our weekly competition to compose a cryptic clue, to be judged by your fellow contestants.

You may enter as many clues as you like and everybody is welcome to have a go.
Please parse your clue (unless it is blindingly obvious)

Everybody who enters may vote for their favourite clue - please include the post number.
The entry with the most votes wins and its composer will set next week's competition.

Please post your clues by 12 noon Friday 24th. March, when voting opens - deadline 8pm. that evening.

The setter has a deciding vote in the event of a tie and may change the rules if necessary.
It is customary for the setter to award an online prize when declaring the winner.

The answer to be clued this week is:

SMART ALEC or SMART-ALEC (5,4)

Have fun and good luck!

Sorry, forgot to parse. It's pretty obvious - anagram (confused) "rascal met", definition "know-it-all"

rossim's is first letters, of course
