This must be a Listener suited to newbies if I've finished without breaking a sweat? I'm not sure I understand the significance of the eight extra words - probably not helped by the fact that I seem to have nine at the moment.

There is a 6 letter word that goes after each of them. This is relates to the type of journey the puzzle's protagonist takes.

I'm not sure how to enter the two two letter cells. Does it matter? I have the legendary flyer but am confused about the overlapping letters.

The two letter cells are relevant. Read in Wikipedia how the traveller meets its end and where it disappears!

Does that mean the two cells just contain Os?

No you need both because the
O????m is swallowed by B??d so effectively going up its own fundament
