Anyone on the ball today? I have ideas but am stuck on several clues. Please can anyone help so I don't get too leg-locked? 7a: western Pacific capital near the ocean (not southern)(4) and 1d: Asian warblers, independent mouths beginning to sing (5)

7a refers to money
1d defn asian warblers / songbirds ....Usual I for independent + 3 letter synonym for mouths + s(S ing)

You didn't say if you had any letters. Here are some hints...

7 A. A odd-sounding coin, currency (from the Western Paciific) that crops up occasionally. The 'near the ocean (not southern)' means to drop the 's' from Sea.

1 D. Warblers/birds. A three letter word for 'mouths' inside 'independent' and the 'beginning to sing'.

I've got 1d but the trouble for anyone struggling with it is that the
word is neither in Chambers nor Bradford. Look up os for mouth and then the plural.

Thank you all. I did have ??ea for 7a but did not realise money. For. 1d I have ioras, but can't find it anywhere.
I need help again though: is 18d door, making 17a Ida? If so, can you explain Ida?
Also completely stuck on 20d: jacks holding girls palms. I have ? ENSRS

20 D. Just a 7-letter word for palms, plants. A common four letter word for 'sailors', with a common 3-letter word for 'girl' inside. Your middle 's' is wrong.

You haven't given the clues for 18 and 17. I'll need to have another look at the paper.

Thanks Malone. 20a has two letters in one cell?
Also,
17a female chromosome removed from books (completely the opposite) IDA (my letters) if 18d is correct.
18d: portal to mimic gate I have DOOR

For DOOR I think it's mimic = do and gate = OR (circuitry).
