It is from a puzzle at a local social club. It is actually a word puzzle not a crossword, but the clues are all like crossword puzzles.

I also thought - double bassoon - but I can't seem to get any relevancy to the word William. Is there one?

I was thinking one of the words could be William or Billie or something.

I was fishing around for an explanation and posted too soon.
Contra are opposites. ???
