This should be easy..... 10D Barb of a feather used in making a fishing fly. (4) I've got ?E?L. Could be HEEL or TEAL or something else. Any thoughts, anybody?

I think it's HERL.
I'm stuck on 1a, 3d and 17a.
Any ideas?

1ac = ODDS
3d = SLAIRG (Old Scots)
17ac = LOWLIGHT

Thanks Andy, I'm as Scots as they come but I huvny heard of slairg. It's a good word though so will be using it from now on.
