47 d He caught many in a frenetic way. (6) H ? C ? I ?.
Probably HECTIC but why?

76 d This regularly turns on you. (4) T I ? E.
TIDE, TIME or TIRE. The first two are regular so which and why?

Best of health in 2017 to all puzzle solvers.

He + Ct (caught) + IC (99 in roman) = many

the tide can turn at anytime (old proverb)

Ps. I know that IC is not correct for 99 in Roman numerals.
It should be ICIX.
But it is very common in Xwords.

An Example from the Guardian:

Guardian 24643 (Gordius): It melts for about 99 bucks (2-4) DE-ICER

Many thanks for responding shooty.

76 d. My wife thinks different to you and me. The compiler says: "This regularly turns ON you." And because watches are worn ON wrists she feels TIME is more likely than TIDE.

Roll on next Sunday, we'll see!

Best wishes,

Basil
