I'm guessing that allan1932 is correct and I think it is probably a reference to the Bible.
What did Jacob do (to - get - her)?

I think the answer should be WORK to- get- her. Jacob had to work seven years for Rachel's father before being allowed to marry her. If I remember right, the father conned Jacob and made him promise to work another seven years before actually allowing the marriage to go ahead.
