Hi - could someone parse this last answer for me?

21d Stretch then follow devoted supporter (6)

The letters I have make me think that it is LAPDOG, but
I just don't see why! Please help before I go mad!

The answer 'lapdog' was given in a previous post (20 November)
'Lap" can mean a circuit or stretch and 'dog' can mean 'follow'.

Thanks Aquarius - I did not look at previous posts, sorry,
and I never thought of lap in terms of circuit, even though I do watch some F1 racing !
