17 is a bit odd - the chemical term is ENANTIOMER - isomers that are non-superimposible mirron images, like left and right handed shoes. Most amino acids can be found as enantiomers. Pure samples rotate the plane of polarsied light in opposite directions. The denoument of a Dorothy Sayers book - The documents in the case - depended on this!
