From a crossword book:
"Go north after raw metal or wood." (6)
The answer is 'Oregon' but I don't see why. "Go north" is 'gon' and the raw metal is 'ore', but where does the "wood" bit come in?

Oregon pine was the ballast of choice on the slave ships returning from North America to Scotland. Hence most of the old tenement buildings in Glasgow were floored with that timber and it was also used for the malting floors in many of the Scottish distilleries. It is still in great demand but can be obtained from some demolition yards and is in perfect condition more than 150 years later.

I bet you didn't know that!
