Some clues contain an additional word which must be removed before solving.
40d American composer not surplus in humorous TV reporting, say (4)
CA?E possibly cage? (The extra word is either composer or humorous
as I have the required letter from it)
As always I have got so far and then come to a dead end. 45 across - Fixed pole back where delayed intervention occurred ( 7 two words with 7 being the length of the entry rather than the length of the answer ) is the only clue eluding me. I assume the last part of the answer is door ( rood reversed ). I have all the unclued letters which take a normal EV form in the grid but cannot make the leap from those to what needs highlighting. Pointers in the right direction for both the clue answer and the end game would be much appreciated.
Thank you for the two pieces of help Djawhufc. The author is not one whose work I am familiar with and the letters did not seem to make any sense until I put them nto an anagram solver.
