What on earth do these instructions mean? "ALL across clues...but the wordplay in the other 12 across clues..." It doesn't make sense to me. Can someone enlighten me, please?

It means if you solve 13 across the instructions will make sense.

Thanks Virginian. It would have made more sense to me if it had read "All across clues have normal definitions, but the wordplay in 12 of the across clues is '13 across". The insertion of 'the OTHER clues', after stating 'ALL the across clues' confused me!

Confused me too but all done now. Not the best I feel, especially 16 down.

16d was my LOI, and a real penny-drop moment - one of the better ones, I thought.

24a is my main quibble (assuming i have the right solution!), with a more minor one at 5d (unnecessary word in the clue?)

16 d was my first one in but I've been doing these for ages.

If 19d is what I think it is then I can't parse it.

Read it upwards. It's not the usual "America"

24 the four letter beginning of the clue followed by two letter abbreviation.

Hi mackania
The 4 letters word in 24 isn't thematic unless combined with another word (not present!)
