1A Say Ru' (4) G?E?

looks like an anagram of eg and ur but GREU and GUER don't seem to be right

3A PM on TV: check after 1 (8) ?R?U?A?T

so this looks like URQUHART (Prime Minister) and 1 is given above

Hi, John

I think 1A is GREY (Greek 'u', upsilon, can also be 'Y', and Glen Urquhart plaid is a grey check).

Of course, I could be over-thinking it and talking nonsense!

Cancel that. It's probably GLEN as Rutherglen is abbreviated to Ru'glen and that also makes more sense with regard to 3A for the reason previously given.
