Is 18 Down - nonene or ionone? They are both used in the perfume industry

Only one comes directly from the clue,following the preamble(about additional letters).

Jigjag, apologies - I misread your first post. Yes, your two options are viable, but only one fits with the crossing letter.

Ionone and t is the extra letter. If it doesn't fit you have an across answer incorrect.

I was leaving jigjag to get 17 A - then the options would have been narrowed down to one!
