3 Some banks are situated in the centre of Basra ?SAR

I think it's probably ASAR - A for are (metric unit) in ASR (centre of BasrA) - but what is it? A river? A group of banks?

6 Gossip once frequent the East End? A?NT

Almost certainly AUNT (an old word for gossip), but why? (The wording of the clue doesn't make much sense - that's the online version - perhaps a missing word?)

I'd be grateful for any pointers, thanks.

Assuming East Enders drop their 'H's

It does look like an 'in' may be missing in 6.

Mattrom, thank you very much indeed! I don't think I was close to getting Cockney haunt, even allowing for the missing word. As for ASAR, it was probably on the Google page that came immediately after the one I decided to give up at!
Cheers again!
