25a River's current, between banks. ?D?R. Presumably river ODER. But how does the rest of the clue work?

I thought of "modern" but still can't see why M and N are banks or how the clue leads to the middle of modern.

Banks are "sides" ie M and N containing Oder. Current is Modern as stated by Mamya
