Completely baffled by "A" and the others I need help with parsing them, so explanations please....

B. Trouble in service supplying gas (5) Is it Radon? If so, why?
C. Dislike having ally leave the work unit. Erg is a unit of work but can't parse it.
D. Judge confronts wily sea-captain (9) Is it Trierarch? Can't parse it.
