What does f,n cut mean? please

Does Flight patterN have any connection? Is there a theme?

The theme was "cutting off the ends" whatever that meant????

I could be over my head at this level. The clues are, to me, at best, obscure ....often.

Well, with your help...I can see that the "cutting off the ends" and f, n cut.... all combine to make some sense out of
Flight Pattern becoming light patter

Sheesh...Obscure (to me) is an understatement.
